Serving Locally

Growing Together

Serving Locally  was formed to further the community garden movement in Cypress. Our mission takes a holistic approach using six principles:
  1. Sharing Resources
  2. Best Practices
  3. Building Relationships
  4. Volunteer Opportunities
  5. Supporting Local Businesses and
  6. Educating.
By working together, we will have a greater impact and a stronger community for all.

CCGN would like to partner with gardening groups and businesses within the Cypress community. We meet once a month to share knowledge, resources, and support each other in providing organic food. (through Zoom)

If you are interested, join us on Facebook to discuss how we can work together and when our next meeting date and time will occur or email us at CCGN@messiahlc.org.

Two of our members, Messiah Community Garden and Oasis Garden, are highlighted below. They have been working together by learning best practices and sharing resources.

CGN January 2021 News

Exciting things continue to happen as Oasis , Helping Hand and Messiah work together. Oasis is sharing their Greenhouse for others to start their seedlings for Spring. Helping Hand shared plants and seed packets with both gardens. Helping Hand is also bringing compost to Messiah for processing.

CCGN welcomes Abba House’s interest in improving their community garden. Abba House helps women and children who have immigrated from Central Africa and are transitioning to the US. Webpage is https://abbashousetexas.com/

St John’s Lutheran Church on Telge Road is considering building a new community garden. We look forward to helping them on their journey. Web page is https://stjohn.tv/
Messiah Lutheran Community Garden is a donation garden contributing to Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM). Currently we have a 600 square feet garden, which consists of five raised beds. As of September 2020, we have contributed 600 pounds of produce, which is ahead of our projections.
We are expanding our garden with plans to double our size by Spring 2021. Our goal is to be sustainable through composting, growing seeds in a green house, and water harvesting. Future plans also include a gazebo and orchard.
Gardening Education is important in building the garden community. We offer free Gardening Classes twice a year in the Fall and Spring. In addition, we host weekly container gardening sessions with Chrysalis Preschool and After-School students.

We are a community garden in Cypress, Texas that operates under the Living legacy Center, a non-profit that supports veterans, disabled and families in need in our community. Gardeners are all volunteers. The garden produces food for our community, gardeners and for the Saturday Farmers Market. There are community garden plots, 15 leased vegetable plots, a butterfly garden area, a wildflower area, fruit trees and our latest addition- a watermelon patch.

June of 2020, we documented about 250 pounds of produce in cucumbers, tomatoes, melons, squash, zucchini, green beans, tomatillos, peppers, okra, onions, garlic, pumpkins, basil and rosemary. We are an Urban Harvest affiliated garden and we also host activities open to families and children.
