Don’t think the garden loses its ecstasy in winter.
It’s quiet, but the roots are down there riotous.

~ Rumi

This Winter New Year’s, try this mythosomatic practice and cultivate your inner Yin.

When the world is storming outside, touch Yin.

Yin is the action of grounding, of composting, of nurturance, of relationship, of healing.

Yin condenses, brings together, interweaves, rests, restores, and dreams. Yin breathes with shadow, loving your wholeness and all your unseen aspects. Yin is also Ma, universal mother care that soothes and holds you with compassion and deep, deep unconditional love.

Your lively Yin holds, shapes and readies your inner transformations.

Yin is your container for your inner gifted soul to do its good work in the world. It is from our full homing ground that we make deep shifts within ourselves, first.

In our always doing, oh-so-yang world of do, do, do, Yin is the equal energy cycle that heals and restores you, so you can go forward grounded, resilient, and confident.

“The spirit is always moving, and always with intent.”

~ Beau Dick, Kwakwaka’wakw Chief and world renowned artist

Beau Dick taught me this and instructed me to share it: In spirit and the energy of your whole self, notice that every moment has a tone, in both your being and in the setting you are part of.

And, spirit, or universal energy, always moves with intention. It even rests with intention.

The Yin invitation is to accept ‘Intention’ not as Doing (Yang), but instead, as receiving in the pulse of life. Ebb and flow, Yin and Yang, balance us for wholeness.

Balance your ebb and flow by tapping into your Yin – your home of full acceptance of your whole self. Spend time with your own Yin, a counter the cult of always producing. Notice how Yin brings an entirely unique quality of connection, depth, and universality.

Deep Winter Yin Somatic Practice

Witness your own inner Yin. No labels, no categories. Just witness, and receive restoring.

In a comfortable place (before bed as this practice can seed good dreaming), take 15 minutes and gently explore:

✔ Where in your body does your Yin live?
✔ What parts of your body energise when you ask that?
✔ What is your felt sense of that energy?
✔ In what form does this information come?
✔ What vibration colour tone character, symbol or action?
✔ Where does it want to connect to within you? Where do you want it to travel in your being?
✔ If you feel any resistance, just pause, wait, and let your yin do its work. Follow its healing and restoring guidance.

Thank your body’s, and your soul’s deep wisdom, made just for you.
